PLAY READINGS: This year’s play readings are planned for the second Monday of each month, hence the first of these will be next Monday, 14th April. There will be no play reading in May as we will be in the midst of rehearsals for the June performance. Once again, Jennifer Ashdown has very kindly agreed for the play readings to be held at her house, Oakdene, Millhead, Bampton, at 7.30 p.m. Dates of subsequent play readings after the April one are: 9th June, 14th July, 11th August, 8th September,13th October and 10th November.
CHILDREN’S GROUP: The children’s group will be performing their play, “The Adventures of St George”, to celebrate St. George’s Day on 23rd April at Blackberries at 7.15 p.m. There will be a thoroughly English theme to the whole evening, with some Henry V and English music through the ages, including a singalong. A traditional roast beef dinner is included and everyone is asked, if possible, to wear something red and something white to complete the English theme. Tickets are £10 and are on sale at the Post Office and at Blackberries. The children’s group are also going to be performing this play for the Over Sixties group on April 16th in the Community Hall at 7 p.m.
In November there will be two productions by the children’s group – one for the under-11’s which will be “Nathan’s Nightmare” and the over-11’s will be doing a shortened version of Aladdin. More over-11year olds are needed for this production so do pass the word around.
Many thanks to Claire for all her hard work on the children’s group, ably assisted by Barbara, Katrina and Daphne. Claire reports that in early January they took the children to see “A Christmas Carol” at the Brewhouse Theatre which they thoroughly enjoyed. They were all so well behaved that Claire hopes to take them to another production in the summer.
BAMPTON OPEN DAY This will be on 25TH August. We had been hoping to hold a car boot sale on that day and it had been planned to ask Rex Serenger if he was willing for his land to be used for that purpose. Obviously, this will now need to await developments: once it is clear who will have responsibility for making decisions about the use of the land, we can establish whether or not it will be possible to hold the car boot sale there.
MURDER MYSTER EVENING This is a joint venture between Bampton Players and Cancer Research UK and is to be held on 15th September. More details of this will follow as soon as they are to hand.
BAMPTON FAIR will be held on 30th October. As this is the 750th anniversary of the Fair, people, and especially children, are being asked to attend in costume. We will be performing a Mummers Play or some other suitable historical drama to mark the occasion.
.
Dates still to be fixed: As a social event for members and their partners, it was decided to ring the changes this year and hold a barbeque instead of a safari supper. Location and date to be confirmed.
Christmas Party – again, date and location to be confirmed nearer the time.
Pantomime – we plan to produce a pantomime again next year, to build on the undoubted success of Sleeping Beauty. (No doubt you all saw the glowing review in the Tivvy Gazette!) Again, dates and location to be confirmed.
One final item for this current newsletter is the good news that we have now found a new home for our wardrobe in the Gun Rom at the Riverside Hall. Many thanks to all concerned in the organisation of the move.
