A Happy New Year to you all.

This term we are pleased to welcome new pupils in Red and Blue classes, (Elise, Aaron and Jordan) as well as children who are now attending full-time in Green Meadows (Lennox, Lexie, Cai, Charlene and Joshua) and children who are attending part-time for the first time (Fergus, Conor and Sarah).

At the end of term we also said farewell to Leah and Aaron who have transferred to a Tiverton school nearer their home.

We are also joined by Andrew Wilson from Plymouth University who is undertaking his final teaching practice with us in Yellow class and by Clare Jennings who is teaching in Red class on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. Clare had a lovely reception from the children as they remembered when they were taught by her in Y1/2.

The term has got off to a splendid start with three year 6 teams being entered for the Youth Speaks Competition, which this year was held at Bolham School. Given the very short time available to the children to write and rehearse their speeches we are delighted that one of our teams took the second place overall (Callum Hallett – Chair, Archie Rayment – main speaker, Owen Broom – proposal of thanks) and that the overall prizes for best Chair went to Poppy Morgan and best Proposer – Lewis Benjamin.

Other Bampton delegates were: Liela, Jodie, Abbi, and Kayleigh

The competition is very tough, with very strict rules and timings. All of our pupils wrote their own speeches and delivered them, using only prompt notes and without reading from prepared scripts. We are very proud of them all.

New Website
Just before Christmas we started working on our own web-site. It is still very much a ‘work in progress’ and so we would be very pleased to hear from you with ideas about the sort of information you would like to see included. The website will eventually have a ‘Bampton’ name and will also link to the Bampton web-site where we have the school pages.

We have tried to make the menu headings as straightforward as possible. It is our intention that pupils will be able to access their class areas to see displays of their work, see their homework tasks etc and that adults will be able to access useful forms and information. Some pages have only a heading at the moment others have a little bit of content. You can currently visit the website at www.bampton.knowgain.info  - let us know what you think – suggestions on paper please so we don’t forget what you tell us.

Clubs
Monday – homework
Tuesday – Football continues
Thursday – drama production group
Friday – stage design

Netball will resume after half term; we also hope to put on a Y1/2 PE club.

Headlice
Please check your child’s hair each week, we have noticed already that a number of children are very itchy!

Applications for Free School Meals
These need to be made now and evidence of entitlement must be dated after 5 January 2009.

Residential Trip
We are busy planning our programme of enrichment activities. Pupils in Red class will soon be bringing home a letter about a residential trip which will take place in the summer term.

Gifted, Able and Talented Register
We have just been updating our register of pupils and reviewing provision. You will shortly be receiving a letter if your child has been placed on the register and notification of provision.
