Bampton in Bloom: Secret Gardens 2004

A small glimpse of some of the gardens which were opened for the weekend in August.

There are over 20 images in this slide show, reflecting the range and character of the gardens which were open. If you have not yet got broadband, be patient! - it takes a while for the images to load.

The gardens varied in size from a fascinating small garden behind the old Baptist chapel to a large open garden affording views across the water meadows. Some were formal, some less so. In one Mediterranean-style one there was a banana tree and a fruiting nectarine (in Bampton!). Many of the gardens had water features including large koy carp and hillside streams. Visitors were impressed by the 'secret' nature of the locations in the town: behind walls and normally closed gates there were real treasures. Teas and plant sales in one garden raised £220 for Devon Air Ambulance.

Come next year!
