Shillingford Ladies' Guild
Shillingford is a small village just to the east of
Bampton. It lies within the Bampton group of five parishes.
Members of Shillingford Ladies Guild presented Hospice
South West with a cheque for £1,020.

The sun was shinning as we left Bampton for Barnstaple, it stayed that way for the rest of the day. The Christmas spirit was in most shop, and the windows where all trimmed up for the event, plus most of the ladies returned with a few parcels. Thank you Marg for organizing the trip, sorry you could not make it.

Our outgoing treasurer Mrs Esme Blackwell stated that £184 had been presented to the Chestnut Appeal and £85 to the Air Ambulance.
The charity for 2006 would be “Breath Easy” which is based at Tiverton Hospital.
This year the guild would be celebrating their 40th anniversary

The ladies gathered at the hall for a practical meeting, where they finalized the program for the year. The afternoon finished with a bingo with a difference and a cup of tea.

The minutes were read, and some business was conducted before Jenny Ashdown showed us how to make boxes for different occasions. The boxes which Jenny had made previously were lovely, and they were made from recycled cards
The outing would be at the end of June and the Coffee evening would be held the first meeting in July.
The Charities of last year that were Chestnut Appeal & Air Ambulance would be given a further £150 each.
We finished off the afternoon with our usual cup of tea and a chat.

Breathe Easy
The ladies met at the village hall and they were joined by Karen Stark from Breathe Easy from Tiverton Hospital, who gave an informative insight on how the organisation ran and what equipment thy use
The people who attend Breathe Easy are people with breathing problems, and they are taught through exercise, which gives people more confidence to deal with the situation.
The Guild will be having Breath Easy for their charity throughout 2006

The ladies and their partners joined Huntsham for skittles; the home team won which goes without saying Thank you Huntsham for a excellent supper we will see you all again in October and see if we can turn the tables.

The ladies gathered at the Quarryman's Rest to celebrate 40 years. twenty four members were present and we had a very enjoyable meal. The cake was cut by three founder members Margaret Payne, Doreen Lazarus (who had made the cake), and Mary Tucker. The fourth member who sadly could not attend was Dorothy Ellicott. The Chairman Phyllis Marley gave a toast to the Guild and its members.
Over these forty years many charities have benefited from the guild, too numerous to mention. Events included some pleasure outings for which we had traveled further afield, including France and Holland for a day. Some of us were flying for the first time (1967). The social life really did rally around the village and everyone seemed to get involved somehow; the hall used to be full and as always plenty of food would appear at these events.

The members attended the meeting at Shillingford village hall. The names were taken for the forthcoming outing to Atlantic Village in November. We finalised the anniversary meal at Quarryman's Rest.
As our speaker was ill, we enjoyed a treasure hunt of the local area - thanks to Phil for organising it so quickly.

The members gathered again at Shillingford village hall. After a quick meeting, during which names were taken for the skittle match and Atlantic Village, we were joined by Dr and Mrs Mew who showed us slides and talked about their holiday in India, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. They were very interesting and kept us entertained for the rest of the evening.

Our autumn skittle match at Huntsham - well what happened ladies was that we only lost 12 pins. What an achievement! Thank you Huntsham for your usual warm welcome and next time we might even beat you! Thank you also goes to Shillingford ladies who hosted the supper. The next match date is booked, and we look forward to the spring match.

The ladies gave themselves a half-day trip to Atlantic Village in Bideford. It was one of those days when everyone appreciated being under cover! On our return we seem to have gained a great many parcels, not sure what event this would contribute to. The competitions, which Rita organised, guess the mystery parcel contents. Thank you Rita- it caused a laugh whilst traveling around, and our thanks to Marg for organising the trip.

The ladies had a very interesting talk on Scrapbook Making by Rachel, who gave members some very good ideas for preserving the family history in simple viewing. Preparations were made for the annual Christmas lunch.

The annual Christmas lunch was held at the Lion, Dulverton, where we enjoyed a wonderful meal, crackers were pulled, hats donned, and presents exchanged. The competition winner was Shirley Kingdom who won the cup. Well done! All these competitions to be sorted for next year, and members we must see if someone different can run away with the points through 2007. The Guild wishes everyone a healthy and happy new year. The next meeting will be the AGM in March - come with some new ideas.

The AGM took place at Shillingford Village Hall. Mrs Phil Marley took the chair. She informed the meeting that she would be standing down from chairman. Phil was thanked for all the hard cwork she had done. The minutes were duly read and signed and the treasurer's report was received. The committe would gather at Marg's to decide on the future programme. The Guild members sent their condolences to the family of the late Joyce Kindon who was a loyal member for many years.

The ladies joined Huntsham with their partners for skittles - it was a lovely evening. Thank you Huntsham for our lovely supper. We did try but as usual we did not knock enough pins down so we have to try harder next time. Well done Huntsham!
Wimbleball Picnic
Rain stopped play, the ladies had to change plans which turned out to be a lovely meeting held at the hall. Twelve members attended and they discussed future events and injoyed the picnic in comfort may I add.
The Coffee Evening will be held on July 11th at 7pm which will include group competitions, which includes a member dressing up for Ascot plus entertainment from Shirley and Tony. Everyone is welcome to come and join us and have a laugh which everyone needs. If anyone needs transport, please ring 331496.

The annual coffee evening was well attended and it was lovely to see people from Oakford, Bampton, Huntsham, Morebath and Clayhanger. Thank you for your support. Margaret and Sally gave us their short sketch plus some readings. The four ladies who dressed to go to Ascot really did look the part. The group who were the winners of the shield was Oakford - well done! The entertainment with music was Shirley & Tony Rawle - thank you both - it had our feet tapping and some were singing. The proceeds from this event will go to the Guild's charity (Tiverton Hospital). The next event will be the members going to Boscastle.

Once again the ladies and thier partners joined Huntsham team for their annual autumn game of skittles. We had a super night and the spirits were running high as we got the closest we had ever got to a win, but alas Huntsham ladies beat us again by only a few pins. Thanks you Huntsham for a loveley evening, and we look forward to the next game in the spring.

The members met at the hall; business was conducted with Joy Sanders in the Chair. The programme was discussed for the future year, with still some outstanding decisions to be made. The next meeting would be Skittles at Huntsham on 30th April.
The speaker was Annie Collins who gave a very interesting insight to how she started doing her jewellery making. There were also an array of necklaces on show, very colourful and tactile. A vote of thanks was given by Myra our secretary. The room draw was won by Sally Luxton. Competion: a pretty top 1st Brenda Reed, 2nd Shirley Kingdom 3rd Joy Saunders.

The members met at the hall Joy Saunders took the chair; the speaker for Hearing Dogs for deaf people was welcomed. A very interesting talk and slide show was given, which gave everyone an insight to some of the problems, which deaf people have to contend with. Also how much communications deaf people miss out on. Then with the aid of a dog how their lives change.
Mary Tucker then thanked Mrs Hurst and her companion Barbra, for giving the Guild such an insight on the deaf persons situation, and what can be done with a dog.
The minutes were read and signed, the Coffee Evening was discussed the decision for the Christmas lunch was finalised.

The annual Coffee Evening was opened by the chairman Joy Saunders who welcomed members of other organizations joining the Guild.for the evening
The representive Arthur Govier from Tiverton League of Friends gave us a talk on the fund raising of this organisation, and what future funds would go towards.
The Chairman Joy Saunders then presented Arthur Govier with £500 which the Guild had raised during the previous year.
The winners of the shield was Oakford well done! It was a very close thing this year
Thank you all one and all who have donated to this years event which will be donated to Taunton & Exeter Leukaemia funds.

The members were entertained by the wonderful journey from Crediton to China. The journey was taken by train by Mr & Mrs Toms through Europe into Russia and then on to China. The adventures which were described in such detail you could visualise yourself there, which included the knock on the door at the boarder and trying to fill in the forms in another language - the description left one thinking what have we missed out on.

The members gathered for the meeting that was Fish Chips and mushy memories. The members enjoyed the evening by going back through the scrapbooks and members had brought old photographs.

May 20th We thank the Huntsham team for their hospitality and their back up with the team.
The steam was up, our balls went down the alley so fast that the sparks flew and the chimney caught fire. We ate our supper in haste in case we had to evacuate the building by the fire brigade.
Thanks to the fire service they had things swiftly under control we hope that not too much damage was done to the property next door to the hall.
Finally we send our condolences to all the family of Phil Marley who was chairman of our Guild a few years ago.

Coffee Evening
The annual Coffee Evening was in aid of Air Ambulance, the guests that attended
Were from Oakford, Bampton Over 60’s Clayhanger W.I. Morebath After Eights and The Guild plus other guests
Five organisations competed against each other with different skills from flower arranging, to a glove puppet plus a few others competitions.
The shield was finally won by Bampton Over 60’s Well Done !!!! It is great to have new winners.
The entertainment was by Graham Matthews on his keyboard
Thank you to everyone who has supported this event with donations, prizes, and goods for our sale stall.

The ladies all gathered at the Old Well for a lunch which was enjoyed by all.
The Christmas dinner was discussed and finally a venue was chosen.
The ladies then enjoyed a trip around the shop where their sense of humours got the better of some of them, purchases were made of some humorous tea towels.
The next meeting would be the trip up the Tiverton Canal.
12th August 2009
The members with family and friends gathered for a barge trip up the canal. The trip took more than two hours. The gentle plod of the horse along the tow path, and the water swishing against the side of the boat made for a very relaxing atmosphere.
We walked to the aqueduct which gave one some idea how well built things were from previous generations. We also enjoyed afternoon tea, which was served on route.

A meeting was held at Shillingford Village Hall, arrangements for future events were discussed.
The Coffee Morning would take place on 17th October 2009 and the venue would be @ the Community Hall Bampton 10.30. to 12 noon.
On November 11th Joy Saunders had booked transport for an outing to Clarks shopping centre @ Street
Skittles would take place at Huntsham on 16th November 2009 7. 30. for 8.p.m
It will be our turn to provide the food.

The Coffee Morning was held in aid of Air Ambulance and was a great success a great profit of £271 15p. was made. Thank you to businesses and everyone who contributed in anyway and also to all those who supported the event and all the hard work that members and friends of the Guild did to make this so successful.

On 10th March 2010 we had our A.G.M. at Shillingford Village Hall. The members and friends had generously raised £400 towards Air Ambulance
throughout 2009 and we thank everyone who has given in anyway One of our members was becoming an octogenarian and it was agreed that
the two remaining founder members would pay Doreen a visit with the card that members had signed and a small gift.
The Chairman was thanked for all of her hard work during the previous years by the Carol Jarratt. The new chairman would be Rita Pollard Vice chair Mary Tucker Secretary Carol Jarratt with Marg Payne Treasurer Mary Tucker The other positions were cards Brenda Reed and scrap book Shirley Kingdon
The charity for 2010/ 2011 would be Shelter Box, this charity can help so many people who need instance help.

The Guild ladies met at Shillingford Village Hall where the minutes were read from previous meetings .
A new member was welcomed, and birthday greetings were sung to our oldest member and everyone enjoyed a piece of cake.
The programme was discussed and finalized for the year. Then everyone joined in with a beetle drive.

The ladies and guests visited Huntsham for skittles, "Thank you" Huntsham for a lovely evening Although we lost again and it was only a few pins!!!!!! 43.
What better after a loss like that to enjoy a good country supper. We will see you all again in November.

The meeting was held in the hall and business was discussed before our speaker arrived. The speaker was Vivienne Fishwick on the Bowen Technique, which was very interesting The technique is a gentle subtle and relaxing hands on treatment, it treats the whole person, not just the condition.
It originated from Australia where Thomas Ambrose practiced the technique until he died in 1980
.
The next meeting will be Lunch at Pulhams Mill 9th June
9 /6 / 2010 Fourteen members met and made their way to Pulhams Mill Brompton Regis where they had a bit to eat and a browse around. Everyone welcomed a new member to the group.
The next trip will be a visit to Tiverton Mayor's parlor where we will view the silver which will be on Tuesday 6th July leaving Bampton car park @ 2.45p.m.
The coffee evening which will be taking place on 14 July 7.p.m. was finalized at lunch. It will be aid of Shelterbox.

A small group ladies were welcomed to the Town Hall of Tiverton by
Beadle Jon Smith and Sue The Mace bearer
They gave us a very interesting report on all the silver and its
history plus other internal information.
They are very proud of their positions and of their Town they do it
great credit.
Thank you both for putting so much time and effort into our visit.
On 14th July 2010 @ Shillingford Hall the Guild held their annual
Coffee Evening in aid of Shelter Box.

The Guild had their meeting at the Bakery in Bampton on Thursday 16th September Thank you Diane and your staff.
The final arrangements were made for the visit to the Air Ambulance base at Umberleigh.
The afternoon Nearly New Sale which will be taking place on October 16th at 2.30.p.m.
at the Community Hall Bampton. This will be for Shelter Box and we are going for a complete box so do support us.
The Festive Lunch has been booked so it looks like an eventful Autumn / winter
Visit to Eaglescott Air Ambulance base 15 members attended (see photo above). Members left the base and then traveled onto Eggesford Nursery where they enjoyed a lunch.

The Ladies met at Shillingford Village Hall minutes were read and the final details were made for the Nearly New Jumble Sale on Saturday October 16th in aid of Shelter Box which is the Guild's charity.
Names were taken for the Skittles at Huntsham on 12 November 7.30. for 8.p.m. we supply the supper.

Where does one start,THANK YOU to everyone who contributed with things to sell, draw prizes,and donations we had such wonderful support. We made £315 profit at this event.
Also thank you to all those people who attended we hope you enjoyed the afternoon.

The Guild gathered at The Bridge Hotel for their annual dinner and it was lovely to see so many members together.
Congratulations Rita on winning the competition cup and Joyce was runner up.
Well done to you all, I wonder what will be new in the comps next year Thank you Amy for running the competitions throughout 2010.

We met at The Toucan and members had an enjoyable lunch, and also celebrated Rita's Birthday with tea and cake afterwards. The competition was a coaster which was won by Amy followed by Marg and then Shirley. An invite has been received to join the Moorland Group in March. The next meeting will be at Shillingford Village Hall on March 9th @ 2.30.p.m. Everyone is very welcome The competition will be an apron (Now I shall have to dig deep).

The Guild held their AGM at Shillingford Village Hall, Rita Pollard took the chair. The Secretary Carol Jarrett read the minutes and they were duly signed.
Carol then informed the members that she would be standing down this year, and had enjoyed her time with the Guild.
We all thank Carol for all her hard work throughout the years she has held the position.

The new programme for 2011 was presented to members they discussed different events.
The competitions for the coffee evening was finalized The members had the Easter feeling in front of them lots of small easter eggs thanks to Rita. May 2011. Skittles Huntsham: Thank you Huntsham for the lovely night we all had, sadly we lost again but that did not seem to matter as the saying goes The company and food was good. Look forward to the return match in the autumn of the year.
May 2011 This meeting was the presentation of our last year's charity to Shelter Box £590. The representative of Shelter Box Brian gave us a low down on where the money goes and what goes into the boxes and how they can be tracked. The Coffee Evening with entertainment which will be on July 13th details were finalized and also the next meeting which would be a lunch out. July 2011. The Coffee Evening was held at Shillingford Village Hall in aid of "Help The Heroes" The members were joined by guests from other clubs and organizations from the locality. Our appreciation goes to everyone who donated draw prizes and also those who contributed towards the stall. The entertainment for the evening was provided by Betty and Audrey who played music from our era and also some entertaining Devonshire readings Everyone enjoyed supper and finally the moment had come for the announcement of the shield winner for this year. The winners were "The After Eights" from Morebath. Well done to you all. The judge being Ann Barrow.
The next meeting will be a picnic bring and share 10 August 2.30.p.m. the venue will be at Sue's at Shillingford.
August 2011. The August meeting was held at Sue's home Thank you to Sue and Alan for your kind hospitality.
The weather held out and we all enjoyed our picnic on the lawn. It was great to see Marg and Elsie back with us for the afternoon.
The next meeting being organized will be the visit to a nursery which will be on 14 September

September 2011. The members paid an afternoon visit to The Old Well where they enjoyed a lovely cream tea and a browse amongst the plants and all the goodies involved with gardening. Many came away with some brilliant new ideas I am sure. We all wish Myra a speedy recovery.
On 22 October we will be holding our Charity Jumble Sale @ 2.p.m. @ the Community Hall Come and see if you can find some small treasure to take home, and help our Help The Heroes fund The winter game of skittles with Huntsham will be 21 November 2011 7.30. for 8.p.m. Shillingford has to provide the supper. See if we can win this time (No bets please) The annual Christmas lunch will be held at the Exeter Inn 14 December 2011

The members met at Shillingford Hall and we welcomed back two members again who had not been able to attend of late. Details for the future skittle match were discussed, and it will be the Guilds turn to provide the food for the evening.
I hope the team that are playing will have had their spinach and will be in great form.
The names were also taken for the annual christmas lunch which will be held at The Exeter Inn
on 7 December 12.30.p.m. For 1.p.m. The things we have to bring gift/present and the competition a home made gift tag. (Who will have won that cup?) I will inform you next month.
Thank you Jenny for your demonstration and generosity, so many more things we have still to learn,
it was great watching you build your designs, something very different.

By the time everyone reads this, the festivities will be over and we shall be well into the New Year. We hope everyone has had a superb Christmas and we wish everyone a Healthy Happy Prosperous New year.
Skittles Match: Thank you Huntsham for the game and it has taken the Guild team How many years?? to achieve a win we have at last won by 25 pins. Thank you for all those members who provided supper and all the family members who had joined us to make the team. Well Done!!!!!! The Christmas lunch held at the Exeter Inn was great we all came away feeling quite full. Congratulations!!!! goes to Amy who has won the cup well done also to the runner up Shirley Kingdom 3rd place was taken by Joyce Cleeve.
The next meeting will take place at Shillingford Village Hall On 11 January 2012 2.30.p.m. 8 February lunch @ The Toucan.
