Next to the bridge is the Fisherman's Cot where visitors can sit by the river. Paul Simon who stayed here in the 1960's (remember those?) watched the Exe rushing past and - can this be true? - was inspired to write the classic song "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Well no, it actually isn't true (although he did stay there) - but it makes a good story when you are watching the water tumbling past you.
