At the end of 2009, we received a Gold Award in the café category and a Silver Award in the restaurant category of the ‘Taste of the West 2009’ competition. The scheme, which was established sixteen years ago, provides a guide to the very best places to eat quality, regional food and drink in the South West.

Industry expert judges visited the Toucan Café-Bistro anonymously looking at quality of food, service, ambience and evidence of local sourcing. The Toucan was awarded the highest points of all cafés in the county.

The Exeter Inn

Dining Room, the Exter Inn

The Exeter Inn is an historic 15th Century Inn and Restaurant set amongst emerald green hills in the upper reaches of the delightful Exe Valley, in the beautiful Devon/Somerset border area. Here you will find that resident proprietor Trevor Smith and family, together with their staff offer you the unique ambience of an authentic English Country Inn with a different warmer atmosphere than ordinary hotels.

The Restaurant has newly been refurbished and offers an atmospheric candlelit dining experience with tables traditionally laid with crisp table linen and attentive service.

You will find an extensive menu ranging from light snacks to full meals including our ever popular ‘Specials Board’. All the food receives careful attention from our professional chefs who use fresh local produce wherever possible. Game from nearby Exmoor is always popular and there is normally a good selection of fish landed at nearby West Country ports.
