Grand Western Canal

The canal basin at Tiverton, just ten miles from Bampton, is a very scenic spot. The canal was originally built to bring limestone into Tiverton, and next to the canal are the remains of the old lime kilns.

From the basin, one can take trips on horse-drawn canal barges, take tea on a barge, hire a rowing boat, or simply take a walk to enjoy the rich flora and fauna along the canal banks.

Public trips run on a schedule from Easter until the end of October - private charter trips may be organised from March to December. This is a popular attraction, and reservations are advised (01884-253345).
